******************************
Topic must be postponed

UpdateSorry, but I have to announce that our speaker can't make the meeting because of unexpected travel. He's rescheduled for May 22 at 6. I didn't have a speaker to step in to speak on his topic, and I considered running a "free clinic" to help solve people's problems as a group, but I think it would be better to have a little advanced announcement about that as well, so there is no meeting tonight..

******************************

We were to have just one session for Thursday, May 8, with Dale Fraser, presenting "ColdFusion and Flex: How to write simple Flex applications that leverage your existing ColdFusion data". Again, this is now postponed to May 22.

Description: (provided by the speaker)

So how hard is it to write Flex applications that utilise ColdFusion components? It?s actually very easy, easier than you might think. One of the reasons for giving this talk is that I initially found it hard to get my head around how it would work, how to configure it all and looked at it and then put it aside a few times. >From doing this I have learnt what I think is the easiest way to get ColdFusion & Flex configured to work together, this is what I will be demonstrating.

I?ll show the basics of configuration (Flex Builder and some setup of CF), then will show and discuss several forms of integration: remote objects, remoting & binding, and using queries, arrays, structures, and objects/CFCs.

Speaker:

Dale Fraser is Chief Technical Officer for CogState Limited, a public biotech company who develops software for cognitive testing for use in clinical drug trials. He's a long-time ColdFusion user and supporter, and he runs the LearnCF.com and FlexCF.com websites.

RECORDING: As always, the meeting will be recorded, and the recording URL will be posted after the meeting at http://recordings.col....

LOGGING IN: When you login to the Connect room (the experts.acrobat.com/cfmeetup link above) to view the meeting, PLEASE USE THE "LOGIN AS GUEST" option, and use your real name, but do NOT attempt to use your meetup.com username/password. The login screen presented there has no connection to meetup.com. And if you have a real Connect account, don't use that either. Just sign in as a guest. It's just not worth the time to try to track who RSVPs and add them manually as participants in each meeting. You have no fewer features as a guest as when you would login with your own account. Thanks.

RSVP, only if coming: As always, we do appreciate folks RSVPing if they plan to come (using the link on this email or at the meetup site), though it's not mandatory and it's not a commitment. BTW, no need to RSVP if you can't make it nor even explain why you can't. With nearly 1,500 members, there's really no reason to explain your absence. :-) We'll also appreciate your sharing your feedback after the meeting (also offered via a follow-up email or via a link on the site).

Discuss each meeting: While the meetup.com site has long had the feature to rate and offer a single feedback comment about each meeting, as well as to have discussions on any subjects, it now offers meeting-specific discussion area, available on each meeting event page. Please feel free to have discussions there about the meeting's topic.

Add this to your calendar: If you would like to easily add this event to your own personal calendar, please note that the page for the event offers a link (on the right) saying, "Add this meeting to your calendar", which offers links to get calendar downloads for Outlook, iCal, Google, and Yahoo calendars. For now, there's no means for me to add these as attachments to the email sent out about each meeting.

    RSVP: Yes
Mark, did you see that this talk (Flex and CF) will not be happening on the 7th. The speaker has had to postpone. When you ask about remoting, if you mean Flash Remoting, yes, my understanding is that it's "underground", if by that you mean that AMF is the underlying communication protocol for comm from Flex to CF, unless web services are used.
